The Evaluation Process
A comprehensive educational evaluation usually takes about 4 – 5 weeks from the first day of testing to the final report delivery.
What to Expect:
Initial Phone Consultation
Many parents have important questions before deciding to schedule an evaluation for their child. To support this process, a complimentary phone consultation is offered to clearly explain the evaluation process, the specific assessments used, the meaning of the results, and how the final report can be used to support a child’s development. The goal is to ensure that every parent feels fully informed and empowered before making any decisions about moving forward with an evaluation.
Flexible Scheduling Thant Fits Your Child’s Needs
Once a decision is made to move forward with an evaluation, testing sessions are scheduled with flexibility and your child’s unique needs in mind. To reduce disruption to the school day, weekend appointments are available and often preferred by families. The number and length of sessions vary based on the referral questions and the complexity of the evaluation. In most cases, a comprehensive assessment is completed over two to three sessions, totaling approximately 8 to 10 hours of in-person testing.
Testing occurs in the following areas:
Cognitive Testing (IQ, processing speed, memory)
Academic Achievement Testing (reading, writing, math, etc.)
Memory
Executive Functioning & Attention (e.g., ADHD screening)
Social-Emotional Screening (as needed)
Insightful Results with Personalized Recommendations
After the evaluation is complete, all test results are carefully scored and analyzed to create a comprehensive, easy-to-understand report. This report offers a clear overview of your child’s performance, highlighting their strengths, identifying areas of relative difficulty, and including any relevant clinical diagnoses when appropriate. Most importantly, the report provides specific, individualized recommendations tailored to your child’s unique profile. These actionable insights serve as a valuable guide for supporting your child’s academic, emotional, and developmental success—both at school and at home.
Comprehensive Feedback and Guidance
Once the report is complete, a dedicated feedback session is scheduled to thoroughly review the results and personalized recommendations. This meeting provides an opportunity to walk through your child’s evaluation findings in detail, address any questions or concerns, and discuss how to best apply the recommendations across home, school, and other settings.
Collaborating with School for Consistent Support
With your permission, collaboration with your child’s educators, school support staff, or private tutors can be arranged to ensure consistent support across environments. This may include direct communication, sharing key findings from the evaluation, or participating in school meetings (such as IEP meetings) to help advocate for appropriate services and accommodations.
Working together with the school team helps bridge the gap between assessment and meaningful, real-world support for your child.
